craft matters
in a fast world, craft takes the slow road. the artisan practice seeks mastery that comes with trial, error, and time. when a compelling vision is fused to craft, the world waits in awe and admiration. here’s one example:
Construction on the Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and was led by the architect, Antonio Gaudí, until his death in 1926. in 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, gaudi’s office was vandalized and many drawings and models were lost. a new set of plans was developed based upon previously published drawings but construction slowed due to a lack of funding.* over 140 years later, the penultimate completion date for the basilica is scheduled for 2026.** across generations, a team of artisans and tradespeople supported the project from the building’s inception until now. they include craftspeople in sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, ironwork, woodwork, and masonry construction.***
