the architecture of farm

farm along the tygh valley in oregon

farm buildings express a spare functionality. the silo is a noble embodiment of material, purpose, and form. silvery gray towers of galvanized steel stand silently against the greening fields waiting for the promise of crops to come. ample barns sit in quiet repose, sheltering the livestock within. the farmhouse, simple by design, holds the heart of a family’s long labor.

oregon is a vibrant agricultural state spanning the vineyard-rich valleys along the willamette river to the endless wheat fields of the columbia river basin. a day trip from portland in any direction guarantees an encounter with the beauty and bounty of the land.

i love farms and photograph as many as i find.
